The Writer (WIP)

This film follows Detroit poet Dwight Stackhouse as he grapples with the nostalgia of his city and writer’s block caused by the loss of his sister. 

This short documentary, however, is still a work in progress. While filming we discovered a story that dives into themes of tribalism and the global gravity of the racial divide. A scene within this film shows Dwight Stackhouse workshopping a play with Alex Morgan, a reformed white supremacist. The play details their mirroring life experiences. As Dwight and Alex mount their play, there’s an even greater internal conflict to explore — one that wrestles with regret & forgiveness through two separate lenses. This is the film we intend to make.
