What was your first professionally directed work and when was it?
A commercial for Les Inconnus, a French brand of scarves in summer of 2019, filmed at James Goldstein Residence and a James Turrell room.

How did you get into directing?
I was drawn to the industry from a young age when I started acting in Czech films and theatre where I also co-wrote plays. With time I started to realize that I want to tell moving stories and create states of minds for the audience rather than act in them. Cinema has had a very strong effect on me since I first started watching films and I wish to create, pass on the same affection for the audience.

What is your most recent project?
A Bulgari project that will come out in 2023 aside from our first collaboration on Serpentine short film project.

What is the best part of being a director?
I get to create with like minded people. It’s a very satisfying feeling to have synergy with your team and create something powerful.

What is the worst part of being a director?
I can’t think of anything. All jobs can be challenging at times, but that’s what’s exciting.

What is your current career focus: commercials and branded content, television, movies? Do you plan to specialize in a particular genre–comedy, drama, visual effects, etc.?
Filming my feature in 2023, however, I’ve been really enjoying creating commercials, short films, and music videos prior.

Have you a mentor and if so, who is that person (or persons) and what has been the lesson learned from that mentoring which resonates with you?
I don’t have one particular mentor, however, I feel that if a lesson or challenge is meant to come to you, it will. And it’s always through someone else.

Who is your favorite director and why?
That’s a hard answer choosing one favorite director, but today I’ll go with Denis Villeneuve. His sensibility for story telling, visual delicacy, talent, career… are exemplary.

What is your favorite movie? Your favorite television/online program? Your favorite commercial or branded content?
Same, it evolves, but I always take a special pleasure in 2001: A Space Odyssey by Kubrick.

Tell us about your background (i.e., where did you grow up? Past jobs?)
I’m from Prague where I lived till 16 years old. Then lived and studied in London and Paris before settling in Los Angeles in 2018.

How has the pandemic impacted your career, art, craft, shaped your attitudes and reflections on life which in turn may influence your work, approach, spirit, mindset?
Frankly speaking, I got creative, there wasn’t any other way for me, and I filmed a B/W short film named Raven about creation of a new DNA and rebirth of the Planet Earth. We filmed in Prague in May 2020. It was crucial for me to remain creative and be behind the camera. The short ended up getting great attention and reviews at US and EU film festivals. You may watch the film on multiple platforms online.

Filmmakers breathe creations and so I believe most of us have remained innovative even during those times and learned new things about ourselves and the craft.
